Objectives

The objects of the charity (“the objects”) are:

Advancement of Education

“For the public benefit, promote the education (including social and physical training) of people in Assam in ways the charity trustees think fit, including by instituting scholarships tenable at any university, college, or institution of higher or further education.

Relief of Sickness

“To relieve sickness and preserve and protect the health of patients of Assam by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities, support services and equipment not easily available from statutory authorities. To advance the education of the public in health care by providing lectures, fora and by the publication of newsletters devoted to healthcare.”

Urban or Rural Regeneration

“The promotion for the benefit of the public of urban or rural regeneration in areas of social and economic deprivation by all or any of the following means:

  1. the relief of financial hardship
  2. the relief of unemployment
  3. The advancement of education, training, or retraining, particularly among unemployed people, and providing unemployed people with work experience:
  4. The provision of financial assistance, technical assistance, business advice or consultancy to provide training and employment opportunities for unemployed people in cases of financial or other charitable need through help: (i) in setting up their own business, or (ii) to existing businesses
  5. the creation of training and employment opportunities by the provision of workspace, buildings, and/or land for use on favourable terms
  6. the maintenance, improvement, or provision of public amenities
  7. the provision of recreational facilities for the public at large or those who, because of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship, or social and economic circumstances, need such facilities
  8. the provision of public health facilities and childcare
  9. the promotion of public safety and prevention of crime
  10. such other means may be determined from time to time subject to the prior written consent of the Charity Commissioners for England and Wales.”

Disasters

“The relief of financial need and suffering among victims of natural or other kinds of disaster in the form of money (or other means deemed suitable) for persons, bodies, organisations and/or countries affected [including the provision of medical aid].

The relief and assistance of people in any part of the Assam who are the victims of war or natural disaster, trouble, or catastrophe by the supply of medical aid to such persons.”

Sustainable development

“To promote sustainable development for the benefit of the public in Assam by:

(a) the relief of poverty and the improvement of the conditions of life in socially and economically disadvantaged communities, and

(c) the promotion of sustainable means of achieving economic growth and regeneration.

Sustainable development means “development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
